Design Thinking Practical Skills Workshop

Duration: 2 Days

Course Overview

Innovative client focused solutions through inspired collaborative design methods

What is Design Thinking?
Design Thinking is a methodology used by designers to solve complex problems, and find desirable solutions for clients. A design mind-set is not problem-focused, it’s solution focused and action oriented towards creating a preferred future. Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be—and to create desired outcomes that benefit the end user/customer and is designed with their input

Benefits of Using Design Thinking
• Fail fast, fail often – minimise cost of failure
• Heavy use of Prototyping to better understand what is required
• Active User Collaboration, designing with them at front and centre
• Iterative process, learn as you do
• Reframing problems and understanding what the ‘real’ issue is and how best to address this
• More effective problem-solving
• Greater team collaboration and improved organizational capability.

Design Thinking Principles
• User centered and collaborative: Making the human element as important as the technical and business
• Iterative: Optimistic, hands on, fun and experimental
• Prototyping of ideas: To gather information, feedback and test solutions quickly and with minimal cost
• Reframes the problem: Asks what issues are we really trying to solve
• Fail fast, fail often: To succeed quicker
• Show, don’t tell!
